Prajwal Parajuly back in town with ‘Land Where I Flee’
According to the author himself, “This novel is my love letter to Gangtok and the Nepali language. This is the only way I can serve my mother tongue.” The writer will be signing books at Rachana Books on December 21 and 22.
He added, “I have made an abundant use of Nepali terms and Gangtok serves an eminent role as the backdrop for this novel.”
The approximately 265 pages long novel which the author claims to have deliberately given a grammatically incorrect title, revolves around the lives of three Westernized siblings who convene at Gangtok to celebrate the 84th birthday of their grandmother.
The story then continues into a series of secrets, alliances and a ‘melodramatic family saga’ as Parajuly quotes.
“The book also highlights the agitation for Gorkhaland in Darjeeling Hills, triggered right after Prashant Tamang’s victory in a reality show,” informed Parajuly.
“I am surprised myself that I am two books old now. It is all because of all the overwhelming response of readers which kept me encouraged. I am however totally clueless about my third book,” added Parajuly.
The latest book of Parajuly is being circulated in the Indian sub continent by Penguin which has already received a warm response and printed around 10000 copies in first phase. The book has been listed amongst best sellers alongside Booker Prize winner Jhumpa Lahiri.
The book was launched in Delhi on December 3 followed by Goa, Mumbai and Chennai. The author plans to launch the book in Kolkata on January 2014 following which he will head back to London.
