BGP accomplishes Gorkha National Congregation in national capital
The mass rally organized to press for Gorkhaland Demand was attended by several national and state level BGP leaders and over a thousand supporters along with leaders of the GTF.
CP Gautam, Sikkim BGP Pakyong branch president accompanied by General Secretary Dhan Raj Gurung, stated in a press release that thousands of BGP supporters and leaders from several states including Sikkim, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, UP, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and others, were present in the two day mass rally in New Delhi.
Gautam stated the function kicked off on the morning of December 18 with a mass rally from Ramlila Maidan that reached Jantarmantar to convert into a sit in demonstration.
On the second and final day of the program the BGP (and GTF) members also marched to the Parliament House and submitted a deputation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde demanding formation of a separate state of Gorkhaland.
Gautam also stated among the other demands place by the BGP include inclusion of Gorkha (Nepali) channel in the Doordarshan network, construction of Gorkha Bhawan in the national capital and special concessions in educational institutions for the Gorkha candidates.
The organization has also complained of the Gorkha community being tagged as foreign nationals in India and has sought proper intervention in the matter.
