‘N Bengal history to be included in History syllabus of Class IX, X'

SNS, Siliguri, 8 December 2013: The state education department would seriously consider to include the history of north Bengal in the History syllabus of Class IX-X, said the state education department Mr Bratya Basu at North Bengal University (NBU) today.
Mr Basu said the department had already revised the history syllabus from Class I to VIII. “The revision for the syllabus of history from Class I to VIII has been completed. But both Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri have rich history. So we will consider to include the history of those districts in the History syllabus for Class IX-X," Mr Basu said today.
The minister inaugurated the faculty club at NBU and also attended a seminar ~ ‘Issues of Higher Education’. Talking about the implementation of the proposed Common Entrance Test (CET) for the post graduate courses, he said it would be implemented soon. “If we are unable to implement CET in the next academic session, it would be definitely implemented in the 2015-16 academic session.
The higher education council is formulating plans," he added. When asked about the allegation of incorrect evaluation over the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) results, Mr Basu said transparency was maintained in the test.
“But if anybody has any doubt, he or she can apply based on Right to Information Act to get to the root of the matter," he said. While speaking at the seminar, Mr Basu said the government had given paramount importance to education.
“The government has focused on excellence and expansion. The studies of the NBU second campus in Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University have already been started. Many new colleges have been functional and many are coming up in north Bengal,” he said.
The north Bengal development minister, Mr Gautam Deb, who addressed the seminar, said the government was planning to set up a national level library at NBU. “This would come up with the assistance of the North Bengal Development Department,” he said.
