KLO suspect held

SNS, Siliguri, 3 November 2013:  Siliguri Police arrested a suspected Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) activist, Dhananjay Roy, from Dagapur in Pradhannagar police station area.
Police found a semi automatic revolver, some live cartridges, and SIM cards on him. Roy has been a close aide of KLO top gun, Malkhan Singha.
Police said he has been involved in arms supply to the outfit. “Roy hails from Malda and he has been close to Malkhan Singh. He used to collect arms and ammunition from the Northeast and supply to his outfit. He also extorted money from businessmen. Some KLO ultras are in Nepal and Roy was planning to go to Nepal. An investigation is on,” said a police officer.
Intelligence reports suggested that the banned outfit is trying to revive with many former arrested and surrendered activists of KLO who are coming back to its fold.
The KLO, which is responsible for killing and kidnapping politicians and businessmen in the region, suffered a major setback after it was driven out from Bhutan in 2003.
Roy was produced at Siliguri Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court (ACJM) yesterday. “The court remanded him in nine-day police custody. He will be produced on 11 November,” said the government lawyer, Mr Dinanath Mohanto.
Police found nine SIM cards, two ATM cards, a fake driving licence, some Indian and Nepal currencies. The Siliguri Metropolitan Police commissioner, Mr K Jayaraman, said police nabbed him based on a tip-off.
