Binay Tamang granted bail in Shibchu case
EOIC, Jalpaiguri, 27 Nov 2013: GJM assistant secretary and Gorkha Territorial Administration member Binay Tamang was today granted bail after a prolonged wait in the Shibchu case. Jalpaiguri CGM court judge Chowdhury Hefazat Karim approved of Tamang’s bail petition.
The judge also granted bail to another GTA member, Kalyan Dewan, on a separate case filed at the Nagrakata police station.
However, Jalpaiguri district court public prosecutor Shanta Chatterjee said the two leaders have not been released from Jalpaiguri Central jail as there are two other cases pending in their names.
Tamang and Dewan’s lawyer Swarup Mandal said the duo was arrested in August this year on charges of destroying police vehicles, public properties and obstructing official work in Shibchu back in February 8, 2011.
