Bhutia, Limbu delegation meets Chief Secy
SNS, 24 November 2013: Six-member delegation of Bhutia and Limbu communities today met chief secretary Mr Sanjay Mitra over demands to set up separate development councils akin to that which has been formed for the Lepchas.
It was learnt that the delegation submitted a charter of demands to Mr Mitra at Nabanna. The delegation has urged the government for assistance in development of the communities and recognition of their dialect.
The Bhutias are spread out over Nepal, Bhutan, and in northern West Bengal, especially in Kalimpong and Darjeeling while the Limbos, which are smaller in number, are scattered over Darjeeling and Kalimpong in West Bengal and in North and South Sikkim and Bhutan.
