GJMM split mulled for Gorkhaland?...Leaders say it is the only option to achieve statehood

SNS, iliguri, 21 October 2013:Non-GJMM members of the Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee (GJAC) are now toying with the idea of splitting the GJMM central committee vertically to revive its relevance in the political space of the Hills.
They said there is no other option for them but to split the GJMM as the latter has failed to quit the GTA and to pitch whole-heartedly for Gorkhaland in accordance with its earlier commitment. The GJAC secretary and CPRM president, Mr R B Rai said: “The conglomerate is still alive and it would gain strength in the coming days as we are sure that a formidable GJMM faction setting more stores by Gorkhaland than by the GTA would cross over soon. As for us, we are fed up with Mr Bimal Gurung and his acolytes. They are now engaged in mending fences with Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee to cling to the GTA.”
“There are several members in the GJMM’s central committee who are frustrated with Mr Gurung having withdrawn the statehood stir midway. This amounted to back-stabbing the people, undergoing sufferings for the cause. They are determined to show Mr Gurung the place he deserves ~ the oblivion,” he said.
He further said they would see to what extent the GJMM would go to curry favour with the state government that is bent on stamping out with brute force any hint of dissent on the question of the paramount emotion of the people. “We fear that an understanding would be reached covertly to strangle the momentum of the movement,” he said.
Echoing the same, the senior advisor, GJAC and president of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisang, Mr Enos Das Pradhan, said they would wait till 23 October ~ the day the purported tripartite talks are slated for in Delhi. “We know it is a bluff on the part of the GJMM. Yet, we would wait till that day and then would sit again to formulate the next course of action. GJMM’s main faction, loyal to Mr Gurung, would be kept out. Other constituents would deliberate on the dynamics of the changing situation to firm up its strategy,” he added.
