Save The Hills nominated for FedEx Award

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 12 September 2013: Save the Hills of India is nominated for FedEx Award for Innovations in Disaster Preparedness organised by InterAction.
STH had been shortlisted as one of the six finalists and the other 5 major NGOs nominated for the award are namely Food for the Hungry, Habitat for Humanity, Mercy Corp, Teachers Without Borders and the Global Food Banking Network.
Save The Hills (STH) is a Kalimpong based NGO working towards raising awareness about landslides in the Darjeeling-Sikkim Himalaya which is one of the most landslide prone areas of the world. The hundreds of articles, images, maps and video clips on this blog bear testimony to a fact which has long been ignored but which can only be ignored further at a terrible cost. It has been campaigning against the landslide menace for a decade.
Save the hills is headed by its president retired wing commander Praful Rao of Kalimpong in the district of Darjeeling, West Bengal. Praful Rao says that "We will be participating in a Webinar (web-based seminar) on 12th September 2013 where there will be 70 participants from all over the world. All participants will be highlighting innovations and partnerships in disaster preparedness and risk reduction. STH is extremely proud to have made it to this level and I do hope we can win the prize in Oct2013 - wish us luck!!"
The final result for the award will be announced in October 2013 and the winner will be awarded cash prize of $10,000.
