Businessman arrested: shops closed

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 11 September 2013: B M Garg a businessman and president of Darjeeling chapter of Chamber of Commerce is arrested by Darjeeling police. 
Strike of shops and business establishments was called by chamber of commerce in all the three hill subdivisions on 11 September. In Kalimpong the strike was called from 11 am. There was commotion when the strike was called on suddenly.
He was charged for funding and aiding the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha with rations issued by the government under public distribution system. 
Garg is the distributor of the PDS. 
On August 28 his three godowns situated in Ghoom Bhanjyang from where food grains used to be distributed to more than 200 ration shops in Darjeeling and Ghoom were sealed by the Food and supplies department. 
He was charged for diverting food grains from the food godowns to Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and police was trying to arrest him. The department believed that the food were supplied to GJM which distributed it to its supporters thats why no one in the hills reported to receive the rations from special centres opened by the state government during the ongoing shutdown. 
Of the three godowns one is of a flour mill run by Mariegold Industries Private Ltd a Garg family run business, the produce of which was use to be stocked in it. According to a source eight businessmen are arrested in Darjeeling by police which is yet to be confirmed by the police.
