west bengal bjp against statehood for gorkhaland
SNS, Kolkata, 7 August: The state BJP leadership today distanced itself from Darjeeling MP Jaswant Singh's stand of supporting Gorkhaland.
The state BJP president Rahul Sinha said , “Whatever Mr Singh said about Gorkhaland is his own opinion. Neither the Central BJP leadership nor the state BJP leadership agreed with the bifurcation of West Bengal.”
Mr Sinha said that its true that the BJP always favoured small states but it is not possible to form a separate state of Gorkhaland with only three Assembly seats.
He also said that the Central leadership, too, does not endorse the idea of separate statehood.
Asked why Mr Singh pleaded for the separate statehood, Mr Sinha said that being the MP of Darjeeling, Mr Singh might have some reservations.
Meanwhile, Mr Sinha announced that Mr Barun Gandhi, the BJP’s all India general secretary and observer, will visit West Bengal on a two -day tour.
He will also visit Singur and meet the Press on 13 August. He will meet the farmers at Singur on 12 August.
He will listen to the woes of farmers whose land has been forcibly acquired by the then Left Front government.
He will be arriving at Dum Dum on 12 August and will visit Kalighat and Dakshineshwar. Finally, in the evening, he will meet the party workers at Mahajati Sadan.
