Stock of essentials to be reviewed by concerned department

SNS, Gangtok, 7 August: In continuation to the previous review meetings in reference to the shutdown in the Darjeeling Hills on the issue of Gorkhaland, the chief secretary of Sikkim Ms R Ongmu has again reviewed the stock of the essential commodities left in the state with the heads of the concerned departments today.
The departments are said to have assured the chief secretary that stock of all the essential commodities is sufficient to sustain the state.
They also informed that the stocks are being replenished. Fresh vegetables are said to have been brought to the state in the past few days under security.
All the food godowns across the state have enough stock of food grains, the heads of the departments claimed.
It has also been decided during the meeting, that the home department, food and civil supplies department and transport department would function during the holidays with minimum staff in order to keep the situation under control with no prospects of the indefinite Darjeeling Hill shutdown being withdrawn.
