
Police arrested lady GTA member from Kurseong
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 18 August 2013: Police has arrested GTA member Prabha Chhetri from Kurseong, she is the first lady and tenth GTA member arrested by the state police during the second phase of Gorkhaland agitation started by GJM and presently supported by almost all hill political parties.
Chhetri is the Executive Member of GTA and in Charge of Department of Women and Child Welfare.
The others arrested GTA members so far are Ramesh Lama (Peshok) on Aug 4, Prakash Gurung (Rimbick-Lodhoma, Darjeeling) on Aug 4, Anit kumar Thapa (Kurseong-Giddapahar) on Aug 5, Mahendra Pradhan (Sonada-Pacheyang) on Aug 10, Pranay Thapa (Pankhabari- Ambootia, Kurseong) on Aug 11, Kalyan kumar Dewan (Gitdabling-Nimbong, Kalimpong) and Anus kumar Thapa (Tung-St. Mary’s, Kurseong) on Aug 12, Nima Tamang (Homes-Bhalukhop, Kalimpong) and Yogendra Rai (Chimni-Deorali, Kurseong)on Aug 15 and Prabha Chhetri (Mahanadi-Tindharia) on Aug 18.
Police has not yet confirmed Chhetri's arrest.
Nima Tamang arrested by police was produced in Kalimpong Court on 16th August but was returned to Siliguri. Tamang had two cases of Kalimpong Police station for which he was produced at SDJM's Court at Kalimpong where no plea for bail was made as Bar association has observed cease work in condolence of the death of mother of its member Anmole Prasad. It is presumed that Nima was arrested in connection with cases filed by police related to Siliguri or Naxalbari Police station.
