GJM team meets Advani
Rajesh Sharma, KalimNews, New Delhi, 7 August 2013: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha team led by Roshan Giri met LK Advani veteran and senior BJP leader as well as Chairperson of National Democratic Alliance at his Office in Prithviraj Road New Delhi from 7 pm to 7.30 pm today, to discuss issues pertaining to creation of Gorkhaland.
In a press released by Ranjan Sharma General Secretary of Delhi unit stated that the team lead by Giri submitted a Memorandum to Advani which elaborated the backdrop in which the Gorkhaland demand has been intensified.
It stated that Darjeeling was never a part of Bengal. Darjeeling was a part of Sikkim and Kalimpong & Dooars a part of Bhutan. The area was merged with Bengal simply for administrative convenience. During the British regime the area of Darjeeling were termed by several names such as Non-regulated area, Backward tract area, partially excluded area and it was absorbed in West Bengal in 1954 by passing the Absorbed Areas Act.
The Memorandum submitted to Mr Advani also focused on the point that GTA was a complete failure and the government of West Bengal always ignored the aspiration of the people of Darjeeling District.
BJP is in favor of creation of small states and supported the demand of Gorkhaland. Gorkhas have been the victims of political discrimination and government always showed step motherly treatment to the Gorkhas. In view of all these the GJM team requested Advani to voice the issue in the Parliament in the ongoing monsoon session.
The team also pressed the veteran leader to remind the State that if prompt action for redressal of the Gorkhas aspiration and demand is not made in time the situation may worsen. GJM has never dropped the demand of Gorkhaland and the same is on record in the Tripartite agreement as well as act.
Advani assured the team that he will raise the issue in the right time.
The team of GJM consisted of three MLAs Dr.Harka Bahadur Chhettri, Trilok Dewan, Rohit Sharma, and Ex MLA DK Pradhan along with Amar Rai Chairman of Darjeeling Municipality.
Addressing the press Roshan Giri told that the situation in Darjeeling is getting worse because of the state government's undemocratic attitude.
He said that some innocent GLP from the GLP camp situated at Parijat Guest house of Gorubathan were arrested and police framed them with the charge of arson in different places very far from their camp and trying to flee to Nepal and arrested at Naxalbari.
