Cop escort advisory to Sikkim cars

TT, Gangtok, Aug. 5: The Sikkim government issued an advisory today asking all Siliguri -bound vehicles not to move without police escort on NH31A after an SUV was torched yesterday evening on the highway.
The vehicle was set on fire by miscreants at Lohapul, around 45km from Siliguri, under the Kalimpong subdivision.
“The Rangpo and Melli police have been advised not to allow the movement of any vehicle without police escort. Vehicles will be now issued number tokens. We don’t want to take any chances,” said the superintendent of police (East), Manoj Tewari.
“Rangpo police would be noting down the numbers of the vehicles and the names of the driver before issuing the token,” said a police source.
According to the information and public relations department, 43 SNT buses, four tankers and 13 buses were escorted to and from Siliguri today.
