3 teachers of Darjeeling participating in national teachers’ science congress
KalimNews, Guwahati, 4 August 2013: Three teachers of Darjeeling participated in the Eastern Regional Orientation Workshop for 7th National Teacher’s Science Congress is scheduled on 04 and 05 August, 2013 at Guwahati in which Teachers and scientists from 12 states namely West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Orissa, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Av& N Islands are attending.
Nirmal Maheswari Rai retired teacher of St. Teressa Girls HS School,Darjeeling, Arun Kr. Rai of Jaldhaka HS School and Dinesh Rai of Jubilee HS School Kalimpong are representing Darjeeling District in the 2 days’ workshop in which 16 member delegates of the state are participating.
Nirmal Maheswari Rai retired teacher of St. Teressa Girls HS School,Darjeeling, Arun Kr. Rai of Jaldhaka HS School and Dinesh Rai of Jubilee HS School Kalimpong are representing Darjeeling District in the 2 days’ workshop in which 16 member delegates of the state are participating.
Nirmal M Rai is district coordinator of National Science Congress while the other two teachers are trained teachers of activity based learning enhancement programme.
The state hosting and organizer of the workshop is Bharat Jan Vigyan Jatha of Dighali Pukhuri of Guwahati. The VII NTSC is will focus with the Focal Theme Science Education for Sustainable Development and other sub-themes.
National Teachers’ Science Congress is a nation-wide programme catalyzed and supported by national Council of Science &Technology communication (NCSTC), Dept. of Science & Technology, Government of India which is an apex set up with the objectives of communicating science and stimulating scientific temper amongst the people. NTSC is an open forum for sharing thoughts and experiences, results of experiments in selected subtheme areas can be presented in the form of paper sent to the National Convener. National panel of evaluators screen the papers and the selected participants are invited to present the same in the national event.

NTSC is a forum that provides the science educators a platform to uplift their knowledge and understanding in science education and teaching. Initiated by NCSTC, Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, NTSC has been proved a round table activity since 2003 that enables the science teachers to share their innovative ideas, notions & opinions on how science teaching can be made effective in the classrooms. The teachers have a great role in moulding the learner. Moreover they can generate required awareness among the students in their class rooms.
NCSTC Network, a voluntary network of organizations involved in science & technology communication in India organizes this event in country each year. Over 75 government and non-government organizations are members of it with commitment for science popularization and science communication. National Children’s Science Congress has been a annual activity for last twenty years giving the organization a unique capability and perspective about the need for effective science teaching and learning at secondary and senior secondary level.

These workshops are being organized in 4 different places of the country. Iprovides an opportunity to numbers of science teachers to exhibit their innovative and creative ideas through their research papers in communication and promotion of effective science teaching in class-room. This activity is witnessed by a large number of teachers from the whole country as participants in this grand science activity.
