Three killed in Jalpaiguri accidents
Pinak Priya Bhattacharya, TNN | Jul 18, 2013,Jalpaiguri: Three persons were killed in two different accidents at Brahmapur on state highway 12A in the wee hours on Wednesday.
One of the victims was identified as Kamal Rai (22), while police are yet to identify the other two bodies.
Witnesses said a truck loaded with fish from Andhra Pradesh was headed for Changrabanda in Cooch Behar when it hit a roadside pole at Brahmapur, overturned and fell into a ditch. The accident occurred at 2am, killing both the driver and the helper on the spot.
A crane was brought to the spot to pull out the truck from the ditch. As the driver and the helper were busy pulling out the truck, another truck rammed into the crane from behind. Helper Kamal Rai died on the spot, but the driver of the killer truck managed to flee in the melee.
Police failed to identify the bodies of the victims of the first accident as the persons were outsiders.
"Probably they are from Andhra Pradesh and no one in the locality knows them,' a police official of the Maynaguri police station said.
