Three children fall to death
SNS, Siliguri, 10 July 2013: Three children, including two brothers and a sister, died after they fell into a ditch which was filled with rainwater at Petki in the Phansidewa block today.
Among the deceased, Reshma Murmu (7) and Rahul Murmu (6) are brother and sister.
Another Sunita Murmu (8) was the neighbour.
The parents of the children had dug up the ditch near their houses and the ditch is around seven to 10 feet long and it was filled with rainwater.
The local people pulled out the bodies. Initially they refused to hand over the bodies to police for post-mortem.
“Later they handed over the bodies to police and we sent the bodies for post-mortem,” said the Phansidewa police station Officer-in-charge, Mr Suraj Thapa.
