Gurung charged with violation of MCC

SNS, Siliguri, 11 July 2013: The Jalpaiguri district administration has registered a case against the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha chief, Mr Bimal Gurung on charges of violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) that has been in force in respect to the three-tier rural polls.
According to the administration officials, despite reminders that more than five vehicles cannot be used during the poll campaigning, Mr Gurung, who is also the chief executive of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), has violated the norm while campaigning with a convoy that contained more than five vehicles for his party and its ally, JMM in the Dooars.
According to them, police have registered several cases, charging Mr Gurung with violation of MCC. The administration is understood to have informed the State Election Commission (SEC) about the violation.
Police are expected to send a detailed report on the matter to the SEC in the coming days. According to police, Mr Gurung had violated the norm while canvassing votes at Jaigaon and Malbazar in the Dooars.
Police said that they have taken several snaps of Mr Gurung’s convoy. “These would be sent to the SEC for action,” a police official said.
