Deep Gazmer, TNN | Jun 26, 2013.DARJEELING: With the recent spate of attacks on party supporters, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) Hills unit leaders on Tuesday met the senior district officials and submitted a deputation demanding the latter's intervention to stop "Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM)-backed atrocities".
Trinamool also extended a hand of friendship asking GJM to work together to develop the region that has been "neglected since long".After submitting a deputation to the district administration and the police chief, the Trinamool leaders held a meeting in Darjeeling to discuss ways to strengthen its base in the Hills and take up development issues.
"We met the district officials including the district magistrate and the superintendent of police and apprised them about GJM's atrocities in the Hills. We have asked them to ensure free political movement of our party leaders and workers in the Hills," said Rajen Mukhia, Trinamool Darjeeling Hills coordinator.
Mukhia also said: "We are ready to work together to ensure development of the region. For this, if the GJM want our help we can talk to the state government." Trinamool supporters have been facing the brunt of GJM attacks ever since the former started activities in the Hills.
