Living her dream- the beauty queen Sagarika Chhetri

HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE, : Like many young girls, she had dreamt of flying and travelling the world. By the age of 18, she was following her dreams. Young and beautiful with a pleasant personality, she had what it takes to be a flight attendant.

Also, she had everything to become a beauty queen which she realised this year. Twenty-three-year-old Sagarika Chhetri won Miss India Kolkata 2013 early this year. This darling of Darjeeling, India also participated in Miss India 2013 and made to Top 10 of the contest.

On January 28, leaving behind around 350 contestants, she bagged the crown of Miss India Kolkata 2013 in Kolkata. She also won subtitles — Miss Glowing Skin, Miss Timeless Beauty and Miss Fashion Icon.

Being called a beauty queen is a “great thing” for her as she feels, “I am going to be known as Miss India Kolkata 2013 in the coming years.”

It was a moment for ecstasy which was made possible due to her “luck and destiny”.

Sharing her change of fate, Chhetri , who grew up in Mumbai, divulges, “I am a flight attendant and on one of the flights, an entire team of pageant organisers was travelling to Goa for a pageant. It was then that they suggested, ‘Why don’t you try!’ Everybody was like, ‘You are tall and good looking’. I was inspired and I gave it a thought.

“I think deep down every girl wants to become a beauty queen. I had mine somewhere deep, which I realised then,” Chhetri adds.

As such she applied, auditioned, competed and won with “my confidence and the way I presented myself in the pageant”.

She believes in herself and her capabilities. “My father is a naval officer from who I have inculcated confidence and discipline that I applied in the pageant. This made me stand out in the competition,” she adds.

As a Nepali girl won Miss India Kolkata, the win was “a proud moment for the Nepali people also”. Supporting and loving her more were the people from the North East zone encouraging and motivating her.

Afterwards, she participated in Miss India on March 24. “With 40 days of grooming and training at the Miss India pageant, I got to discover new potential and talent in me. It was a great experience where young girls are motivated and given opportunities to expose their talent,” Chhetri, who was in Nepal for a short vacation, shares about her journey from Kolkata to Miss India.

Though she did not win, Chhetri believes, “Whatever happens, it happens for the best. There must have been a reason. No regrets. It was a great experience to be on a big platform; I feel blessed to have got that exposure. It is an achievement for me.”

She further states, “The competition was tougher. Girls from different states had different potentials and talents. But I gave my best. I was disappointed with the result, but made friends, became a part of different activities during the pageant. I will take it as a learning experience and implement it in my life.”

Since then her life has changed — people recognise her which she takes positively. “Not everybody gets love and support from people. It is a good feeling,” admits the graduate of the University of Mumbai.

With fame, she is getting offers for modelling and acting which she is considering knowing her “strengths”.source & courtesy: http://www.thehimalayantimes.com/fullNews.php?headline=Living+her+dream&NewsID=379100
