Class 11 student from Manipur, 2 from Sikkim scales Mt Everest

Student of Kanan Devi School, Chingkheinganba (16) scaled the highest peak (29,029ft) at 5.30am along with Ansu Jamsepa of Arunachal Pradesh; David Zohmangaiha, Mizoram; Tarun Saikia, Assam; Wangsuk Myrthong, Meghalaya and Kazi Sherpa of Sikkim.
Chingkheinganba’s mother Nameirakpam Ongbi Savitri (50) was ecstatic on hearing the news.
“We haven’t slept in the last few days. I was worried whether my child would be able to scale such a mighty mountain. I am very proud of my son’s success,” she said.
Ansu Jamsepa of Arunachal Pradesh has also created history by becoming the first woman, who is also a mother, to scale the world’s highest peak thrice.
David Zohmangaiha, Wangsuk and Tarun Saikia have also made their states proud by becoming the first to scale the Everest.
So far, the youngest person to climb Mt Everest is 13-year-old American Jordan Romero, who achieved the feat on May 22, 2010 while the youngest Indian to do it is 16-year-old Delhi school boy Arjun Bajpayee.
On Friday, 30-year-old N Bidyapati became the first woman from Manipur to scale the Everest along with Anand Gurung (Sikkim) and Nima Lama (Arunachal Pradesh).
Nine climbers, two each from Manipur, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and one each from Assam, Mizoram and Meghalaya have climbed the Everest. Deputy team leader Puyamcha Mohon of Manipur will climb the great mountain on Sunday morning. 22 year old Anand Gurung became the seventh mountaineer from Sikkim to summit world's highest peak, Mt. Everest. He was the first to summit highest peak at 7.35 AM (17/05/13), first out of 11th members from North-east team to climb Mt. Everest.
M Kumar of Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association, which organises the 2-month long expedition, gave this information on Saturday.
