Dutta said that legal action will be initiated against Sharma, alleging that he is indulging in illegal activities. He further stated that Sharma would be brought to book even after returning to his home state after the West Bengal elections conclude.
“An FIR will be lodged against Sharma, and he will be given strict punishment. He has been harassing women on the instructions of his bosses from the BJP,” Dutta alleged.
With just a day left for voting, tension escalated in Falta after police observers, accompanied by Central Forces, reached the residence of TMC candidate Jahangir Khan.
Citing media reports, Dutta also alleged that Sharma had faced two separate inquiries. In the first, he was accused of corruption and allegedly extorting money through a syndicate by promising favourable postings to police officers.
“In the second case, a 30-year-old woman claimed Sharma had married her in Ghaziabad. After discovering his alleged relationships with other women, she approached the DIG to file a complaint. She also accused him of snatching her laptop and other devices. Sharma, however, filed a counter-complaint and eventually had her declared the culprit,” Dutta said.
The development comes ahead of the second phase of polling scheduled for April 29, covering 142 constituencies across South Bengal, including Kolkata.
Sharma, a 2011-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre and a native of Ludhiana, is known for his tough policing style and has been associated with several high-risk operations during his career, according to media reports.
