Rapists convicted, gets 10 years rigorous imprisonment

EOI, SILIGURI, 20 May 2017: A man found guilty of raping a minor in Siliguri was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by Siliguri sub-divisional court earlier today. During the course of investigations, Haridhar Singh was found guilty of continuously raping a minor.

Siliguri Sub Divisional Court Judge Taposh Kumar handed down the sentence to the convicted rapist. The court also slapped a fine of Rs. 5,000 to the convict, failing which the convict will have to spend an additional six months in jail.

Hairdhar Singh, a resident of Matigara, was found to have continuously raped a minor for a year starting from 2012. The minor’s family became aware of the on-going rape of their child only after she became pregnant. The child’s mother then filed a complaint against Haridhar Singh at Matigara Police Station on December 20, 2013. On the basis of the complaint filed, the police then arrested the accused Haridhar. An investigation was started into the case and after examining evidences in few years, the court handed-down the sentence today.
