West Bengal Expands Health Scheme Coverage to Five AIIMS Hospitals

PTI, Oct 16, 2026, Kolkata : In a significant step towards improving healthcare services for state government employees and pensioners, the scope of medical facilities available to beneficiaries under the West Bengal Health Scheme (WBHS) has expanded.

AIIMS Kalyani in Bengal has also been added to the WBHS. Four more AIIMS hospitals in neighbouring states have been brought under the scheme.

The Medical Cell of the state’s Finance Department issued an official notification in this regard. According to the department, the new provisions took effect on the day the notification was issued.

Until now, AIIMS New Delhi was the only hospital outside Bengal included in the scheme. Beneficiaries could avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits at the AIIMS facility in Ansari Nagar, New Delhi.

The notification states that five new institutions have been recognised to make healthcare services more accessible to eligible beneficiaries under the West Bengal Health Scheme. Besides AIIMS Kalyani, the other institutions are AIIMS Patna, AIIMS Guwahati, AIIMS Bhubaneswar in Odisha and AIIMS Deoghar in Jharkhand.
