Three Detained in ₹1.2 Lakh Kalimpong Shop Theft Case; Cash and Motorcycle Recovered
According to police, the theft occurred on October 4, 2026, when two to three unidentified youths allegedly stole around ₹1.2 lakh from the shop. Following the incident, a case was registered and police immediately launched an investigation to identify those involved and recover the stolen property.
On October 5, 2026, Kalimpong Police detained three persons identified as Aman Bardewa, Sanju Rai and Lopsang Tamang, all residents of Kalimpong. During the investigation, police recovered ₹50,000 in cash from their possession.
Police also seized a second-hand motorcycle valued at approximately ₹58,000, which, according to the investigation, had allegedly been purchased using money from the stolen amount.
In a further development, Aman Bardewa and Lopsang Tamang were traced to the Junction area of Siliguri, where they were allegedly staying to avoid detection. With assistance from personnel of Pradhan Nagar Police Station, Kalimpong Police apprehended the two and recovered the cash and the motorcycle from their possession.
The recovery of the motorcycle is considered significant to the investigation, as police suspect that it was purchased using proceeds from the alleged theft.
All three persons were subsequently produced before the learned court, and further investigation into the case is currently underway. Police are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the theft and the possible involvement of other individuals.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as police proceed with the case.
