Police arrest three in alleged fake Aadhaar card racket in Siliguri
MP, Oct 7, 2026, Siliguri: A fake Aadhaar card racket allegedly operating in Matigara has been busted, with police arresting three people, including a woman and two suspected Bangladeshi nationals.
Police also recovered laptops, a printer, stamps and a large number of documents used for allegedly preparing fake Aadhaar cards.
According to police, the racket was allegedly being operated from the house of a man identified as Ripon Roy located in Shishabari, Chaitanyapur, under Matigara Police Station in Siliguri Sub-Division area.
Acting on a tip-off on Monday, a team led by SI Simanta Chatterjee raided the house of Ripon.
Sensing the police presence, Ripon allegedly fled from the spot.
However, police arrested two men identified as Litu Mohanta and Sushil Roy, allegedly residents of Bangladesh, along with Ripon’s wife, Pavitra Rani Roy, from the house.
During questioning, the two men told police that they had agreed to pay Ripon Roy Rs 10,000 each for obtaining Aadhaar cards, which Ripon had promised to issue to them.
A subsequent search of the premises led to the recovery of two laptops, a printer, seven seals and stamps, a large number of Aadhaar enrolment slips, caste certificates and Aadhaar cards.
The three accused were arrested under relevant sections and an investigation has been initiated.
Police have launched a search for Ripon Roy and are also probing whether more people are involved in the alleged racket.
The arrested accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday.
