Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya Alleges Death Threat, Seeks Chief Minister’s Intervention

MP, Oct 16, 2026, Kolkata: Senior advocate and former CPI(M) Rajya Sabha member Bikas Ranjan Bhattacharya alleged that he had received death threats over the phone. Bhattacharya, through a social media post, sought the intervention of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

Incidentally, an attack was recently carried out on his house.

In his social media post, Bhattacharya also claimed that a person identifying himself as Sukanta Mondal had called him and threatened to kill him and his family members.

He also alleged on Friday that derogatory comments were made about his late mother.

The veteran advocate wrote that he was awaiting a reaction in this regard from the Chief Minister, who is also in charge of the state police department.

Bhattacharya claimed that the caller was a “Hindu fanatic” and also said that such actions were inherent among people subscribing to ‘Hindu fanaticism’.

“I received the call at around 10.47 pm on Thursday from a Hindu fanatic identifying himself as Sukanta Mondal. He threatened to kill me and my family members. He also used abusive language for my late mother. Such derogatory language and abusive behaviour is inherent among Hindu fanatics. I am now waiting for the action to be taken in the matter by the CM who is also the state’s police minister. If necessary, now, I will be exercising my right to self-defence,” Bhattacharya said.

Bhattacharya’s residence at Purbalok in the Jadavpur area of south Kolkata was attacked by unidentified persons last week.

It was alleged that in the early hours, a masked person arrived on a two-wheeler and hurled liquor bottles at his residence.

Bhattacharya had also alleged that the accused in that case was a “Hindu fanatic”.
