The Pioneer : A 66-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her 72-year-old husband following an argument over pork curry in Nalgonda district of Telangana, police said on Sunday, September 6.
The victim was identified as Karingu Lingamma and her husband as Karingu Lingayya. The couple, who had two children, frequently quarrelled over petty family issues, according to police.
The incident took place late on Friday night at their house in Shabdulapur village under Kanagal police station limits.
According to local reports quoting police, a pig was slaughtered in the village on Friday and Lingayya told his wife that he would bring pork curry home. Lingamma allegedly objected to it, saying she would not cook it and would throw it away if he brought it home.
The disagreement escalated into a quarrel, during which the couple allegedly assaulted each other, police said.
Later that night, while Lingamma was asleep, Lingayya allegedly attacked her with a sharp agricultural implement, killing her on the spot. The weapon was identified in local reports as a para, an implement used to remove grass from cotton fields. Police said she suffered severe injuries to her forehead, chest and abdomen.
A Telugu television report said the argument also occurred in the context of the woman refusing to cook meat on a Shravana Friday. However, the police version cited in the PTI copy describes the dispute simply as being over pork curry.
Lingamma's younger daughter, identified in the local report as Lakshmamma, lodged a complaint following the incident. Police registered a murder case at Kanagal police station.
Lingayya allegedly fled from the house after the killing and police launched a search for him, according to an earlier local report. The later police update said he was arrested on Sunday.
Further investigation is underway.
