Seva Setu Abhiyan Draws Overwhelming Response at Ningthoukhong, 80% Participants Women

Aseem Bhakta Singh, KalimNews, Sept 21, 2026, Imphal: The Seva Setu Abhiyan, organised as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan by the BJP Bishnupur Mandal, received an overwhelming response at Ningthoukhong on Sunday, September 20, with as many as 817 people participating in the programme, around 80 per cent of them women.

The programme was organised at the residence of Home & Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam, in collaboration with the District Medical Office, District Supply Office, Social Welfare Department, Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department of Bishnupur. The initiative brought together a range of healthcare, welfare, agricultural and horticultural services at a single venue, with the objective of making essential services more accessible to people in the area.

A major attraction of the programme was the Free Mega Health Camp, which witnessed particularly strong participation. Medical consultations were made available in a wide range of specialities, including Medicine, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Dental, Diabetology, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, ENT, Eye care and Optometry.

Participants were also provided with a range of diagnostic and medical services free of cost. These included medicines, ECG, haemoglobin testing, lipid profile, kidney function test, liver function test, uric acid testing, diabetes testing and other blood investigations.

The health consultations were originally scheduled to continue from 8:30 am to 4 pm. However, the response was so strong that the medical camp had to continue for an additional period, finally concluding at around 5:15 pm to accommodate the large number of people who had turned up for consultation and diagnostic services.

The programme also included several welfare-oriented initiatives through the Social Welfare Department. Beneficiaries received wheelchairs and rice, while assistance was extended under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana. The department also facilitated e-KYC updation and provided other forms of assistance to eligible beneficiaries.

The Agriculture Department used the occasion to support farmers by distributing knapsack sprayers and free seeds of groundnut, moong, arhar and soybean. The initiative was aimed at providing practical agricultural support while encouraging cultivation of different crops among farming communities.

The Horticulture Department also provided information to participants about various government programmes and schemes connected with horticultural development. These included Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Per Drop More Crop, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and the development and cultivation of makhana in Manipur.

The large turnout, particularly among women, highlighted the interest of rural residents in accessing healthcare, welfare support and government-linked agricultural and horticultural services through such outreach programmes. The combination of medical consultations, diagnostic facilities, welfare assistance and information on livelihood-related schemes allowed participants to access multiple services at one location.

Among those who attended the programme was L. Phajabi Devi, who described the health camp as particularly beneficial for people living in rural areas. She pointed out that many villagers face financial difficulties and have limited access to medical facilities close to their homes, making such outreach initiatives valuable for the community.

Expressing her appreciation for the arrangements, Phajabi Devi thanked Govindas Konthoujam for facilitating the programme and conveyed her wishes for his good health and continued success.

The Ningthoukhong programme thus brought together healthcare and public-service delivery with welfare and agricultural support, drawing hundreds of residents and providing them with access to services that can otherwise be difficult for rural families to obtain.
