Nitin Nabin stresses coordination among BJP organisation, elected representatives and Bengal government

PTI, September 27, 2026, Kolkata :BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Sunday stressed the need for greater coordination between the party organisation and its elected representatives as well as between the organisation and the government in West Bengal, as he reviewed the functioning of the newly revamped state unit.

Nabin, on his first visit to West Bengal after the state BJP's organisational reshuffle announced on Friday, held a series of meetings with state office-bearers, district leaders, MPs, MLAs and other functionaries, seeking to align the party's organisational machinery with the government it now runs in the state.

Sources in the party said Nabin's message was clear: differences between organisational functionaries and elected representatives should not create parallel centres of activity, while the party machinery should work in tandem with the government to communicate its work to the people.

“The organisation and elected representatives must work in close coordination, and the party and the government must complement each other," a state BJP leader said.

The emphasis assumes significance as the BJP, after its emphatic victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly polls, has moved from being the principal opposition to running the state government. The party has since been undertaking an organisational restructuring, including changes in several district units and its youth and women's wings.

At the organisational review meeting at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town, Nabin met state office-bearers, Vibhag convenors, state Morcha presidents, district functionaries and those handling the party's IT, media and social media operations.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, state BJP president Shamik Bhattacharya and BJP national general secretary Sunil Bansal were also present and addressed the meeting.

The BJP chief also held discussions with the party's MPs and MLAs, with coordination between elected representatives and the organisation figuring among the issues under discussion. He is scheduled to meet the state Core Group and senior leaders later during his two-day visit.

The push for greater coordination comes against the backdrop of occasional friction between BJP legislators and organisational functionaries in different parts of the state.

Party sources said concerns had been raised in recent months over instances in Kolkata, its adjoining areas and some districts where elected representatives and organisational leaders were perceived to be operating without adequate coordination.

The BJP had earlier sought to address such tensions by setting up core committees at the district level. But the persistence of complaints over separate lines of activity has kept the issue on the party's organisational agenda, sources said.
