Manipur Chief Minister Reviews Security Measures to Maintain Law and Order

PTI, Sep 17, 2026, Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Thursday held a meeting with senior security officials here, and discussed measures to maintain law and order in the northeastern state.

The meeting comes days after six people, including four women, were gunned down in separate incidents in Tamenglong and Noney districts.

"During the security coordination meeting held at the CM Secretariat, officials discussed the stringent steps that should be taken to maintain law and order in the state, and discussed in length the new vulnerable areas and how to deploy security personnel there," an official release said.

It also said that with the construction season approaching, authorities of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) are gearing up to intensify work in the next six months, and the state government hopes to see considerable improvement in infrastructure development.

"The security agencies have been instructed to ensure that the ongoing infrastructure development work is not hindered and adequate security is provided," the release said.

The meeting was attended by State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, DGP Mukesh Singh, security advisor Kuldiep Singh, IG Assam Rifles (South), Maj Gen Gaurav Sharma, among other officials.

On September 13, four persons, including two women, were killed when suspected militants attacked their villages at Tamenglong and Longpi, police had said.

Two days later, armed militants shot dead two women when they had gone to a field to collect firewood at a village in Leisangphai, they said.

Ethnic conflict in Manipur since May 2023 has claimed at least 306 lives, with 49 people still missing and thousands rendered homeless.
