Bengal CM meets families of people missing in Nepal floods

PTI, September 16, 2026, Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday met the family members of people from the state who were still missing following the devastating flash floods in Nepal, and asserted that his government was making all efforts to trace them.

Adhikari held the meeting at state secretariat 'Nabanna' here, the Chief Minister’s Office said in a social media post.

Families of all the 37 missing people attended the meeting, sources said.

“The CM assured them (the family members) that all-out efforts are being continued by the state government to trace the missing persons at the earliest. He also assured the families of the government’s support and assistance whenever required,” the CMO said.

The death toll in the Nepal flash floods climbed to 1,399 on Tuesday as more bodies were recovered from the eight affected districts, officials said. The number of missing people is estimated to be 5,170.

The West Bengal government had earlier set up control rooms to cater to families seeking whereabouts of their loved ones, and said it was in direct touch with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to trace the missing persons.
