UP woman SI suspended over alleged social media policy violation .

PTI, August 17, 2026, Meerut : A woman sub-inspector of Uttar Pradesh Police was suspended for allegedly sharing an objectionable video on social media and violating the department's social media policy, police said.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Anu, posted at the police lines here, regularly shared videos on YouTube and Instagram of gym workouts, fitness tips and aspects of her personal life. Her accounts also identified her as an SI of Uttar Pradesh Police.

Questions were raised after a QR code appeared in a recently shared video.

Following the circulation of the video, Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey suspended Anu on Sunday.

Police clarified that no video of the SI in uniform has surfaced. The Cyber Cell is examining the authenticity of the video and other facts.

SP (Crime) Avnish Kumar said the suspension was ordered for violating the department's social media policy. A departmental inquiry has also been ordered against the SI and action will be taken based on its report.

latestly.com : Senior authorities in Uttar Pradesh Police suspended Sub-Inspector (SI) Anu Rani following allegations of posting objectionable content and displaying a payment QR code during live interactions on social media platforms.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avinash Pandey issued the suspension order, citing a breach of the department's strict social media policy.

The action came after a video circulated online in which a social media creator raised concerns over SI Anu's online activities.

The complaint highlighted that while she regularly posted fitness tips, personal lifestyle vlogs, and gym routines identifying herself as a UP Police officer, her live video feeds featured a personal QR code.

Police officials clarified that none of the viral videos show the officer in uniform.

However, departmental regulations explicitly restrict personnel from engaging in monetized, self-promotional, or inappropriate online behaviour that compromises the dignity of the service.

A dual investigation has been launched to look into the matter.

The Cyber Cell is currently examining the authenticity of the video footage and verifying whether the content was tampered with or edited.

Concurrently, Circle Officer Soumya Singh has been assigned to lead the departmental inquiry.

Speaking on the action, SP (Crime) Avnish Kumar confirmed that the officer was suspended for violating professional conduct protocols on digital platforms.

Further administrative action will depend on the final findings of the Cyber Cell and departmental inquiry reports.

SI Anu Rani, a 2023-batch officer previously posted in the Meerut Police Lines, had formerly garnered media attention for her involvement in high-profile local investigations.

Following the controversy, her social media accounts have been deleted.
