Nepal floods: SSDMA creates dedicated helpline to assist Sikkim residents

PTI, August 27, 2026, Gangtok: The Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) has established a dedicated helpline to assist Sikkim residents who may be stranded or affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.

The announcement came via a press release issued from Gangtok on August 26, 2026.

The flash floods struck Nepal's Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts after an avalanche triggered a sudden surge in the Bhote Koshi River, causing widespread destruction.

The helpline – reachable at 03592-201145 / 03592-202461 / 03592-202256 – will help coordinate rescue efforts, share information, and liaise with authorities in both Nepal and India.

Families with relatives currently in Nepal are asked to call with details including the affected person's name, last known location, contact number, companions, and the type of assistance needed.

The Sikkim government said it is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the Government of India, Embassy/Consular authorities, and Nepali officials.

Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel to the flood-affected areas, rely only on verified information, and follow local authorities' instructions.
