Kunal Ghosh marshalled out of West Bengal Assembly; Kalyan Banerjee suspended from Lok Sabha

PTI, July 22, 2026, Kolkata/New Delhi: Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh of the Mamata Banerjee-led 'Kalighat' faction of the party was on Wednesday marshalled out of the West Bengal Assembly and later suspended for the remainder of the day after he disrupted proceedings by preventing Opposition Chief Whip Akhruzzaman from speaking during a debate.

Dramatic scenes unfolded during the discussion on the budgetary demands of the Home and Hill Affairs Department, as Ghosh resisted eviction, prompting Assembly marshals to lift and carry him out of the House after repeated appeals by the Speaker failed to restore order.

The Lok Sabha on Wednesday suspended the TMC's Kalyan Banerjee for the remainder of the Monsoon Session for using "unsavoury" language against women members after he had a heated exchange with NCPI members in the Lower House chamber.

A resolution seeking the consent of the House to suspend Banerjee was passed by a voice vote.

As the resolution was adopted, Banerjee was asked to leave the precincts of the House.
