IMD Forecasts Widespread Rainfall Across Bengal Over the Next Five Days

MP, July 10, 2026, Kolkata : Bengal is set for a wet spell over the next five days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall across the state.

Heavy rain is likely across most districts of South Bengal, while a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain has been issued till Monday.

Kolkata remained under a cloudy sky on Thursday and recorded 15.0 mm of rainfall, with showers leading to traffic congestion in several parts of the city.

According to the IMD, the monsoon trough currently extends across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal, a weather system expected to enhance rainfall activity over Kolkata and the rest of South Bengal over the next few days.

Heavy rainfall is likely in most districts of South Bengal on Friday, while North and South 24 Parganas are expected to receive more intense showers on Saturday.

Kolkata is likely to continue witnessing a generally cloudy sky with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain.

The rain on Thursday also affected traffic movement in parts of the city.

Slow vehicular movement and congestion were reported along Ashutosh Mukherjee Road, stretches of Central Avenue, and BBD Bag, as waterlogging and reduced speeds during intermittent showers delayed traffic flow.

The city recorded 15.0 mm of rainfall during the day.

The minimum temperature on Thursday was 27.1 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature stood at 31.6 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the weather office has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of North Bengal over the next few days, with orange and yellow alerts issued for several districts through the weekend.

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in North Bengal till Monday before gradually easing from Tuesday.
