Family of Baruipur lynching victim seeks justice as security is stepped up
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to visit the Mondal family on Saturday during his visit to Baruipur for the inauguration of the Suryapur Police Outpost.
Indrajit was dragged out of his house and lynched by an agitated mob over unfounded suspicions.
Subsequent police investigations found that he had no involvement in any criminal activity.
“What else do we have? We have nothing to ask for. Let justice be served,” said Indrajit’s father, Ajit Mondal.
His mother, still struggling to come to terms with the loss, said: “We have nothing to say. The person for whom we had to speak is no more. Now do whatever you people find fittest.”
She added that the administration had extended assistance, including food supplies, to the family.
Meanwhile, with a round-the-clock police picket outside the family’s residence in Suryapur, Baruipur, repair work on the damaged house began on Friday morning, while CCTV cameras were installed to ensure continuous surveillance.
Officials said the CCTV cameras were being installed as a preventive measure, while the repair of the Mondal family’s residence was also taken up by the administration.
Inspector General of Police (Presidency Range) Kankar Prosad Barui visited the Mondal family’s house on Friday and reviewed the security and other arrangements.
