Amit Shah to visit West Bengal for three days; focus on border security and law and order


PTI, July 17, 2026, Kolkata : Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Siliguri on Friday night for a three-day visit to West Bengal. During this period, he will review border security, law and order, and the implementation of the new criminal laws, and inaugurate development projects in Siliguri and Kolkata.

He is scheduled to land at Bagdogra Airport, near Siliguri, around 9 pm and will be received by West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.

Shah will then proceed to the Border Security Force Frontier Headquarters at Kadamtala, where he will stay overnight.

On Saturday, he will visit the BSF's 18th Battalion Border Outpost at Jumagach near the boundary with Bangladesh.

Shah will interact with BSF personnel, address a Prahari Sammelan, participate in a plantation drive, and inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several BSF-related development projects.

Later in the day, the Union Home Minister will chair a meeting at UttarKanya in Siliguri to review border management and security-related issues in West Bengal.

He will also assess the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the State and hold a separate meeting on matters related to birth and death registration.

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said the focus of Shah's official visit to the State is on border security and management. The Union Home Minister will leave for Kolkata on Saturday evening.

On Sunday, Shah will chair a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation in West Bengal.

He is also scheduled to inaugurate the first phase of the 'Museum of Words' at the National Library in Kolkata before laying the foundation stone for Amul Bengal Dairy's curd processing plant at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.
