Yogi Adityanath Says Swift Action Followed SIT Report as Eight Arrested in Ayodhya Temple Donation Case
Addressing a public gathering in Deoria, the Chief Minister referred to the arrest of all eight individuals named in the FIR, who were taken into custody by Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday night. He reiterated that the investigation was being carried out impartially and promised that the truth would emerge through due legal process.
Adityanath alleged that certain political parties, frustrated by their inability to find other issues, were attempting to target Ram devotees and tarnish the image of Ayodhya by making allegations without substantiating evidence.
Describing Ayodhya as a symbol of the faith of millions and an integral part of Sanatan Dharma, he urged people not to malign the holy city. Recalling his statement made in Ayodhya on June 19, the Chief Minister said the government had assured that action would commence immediately after the SIT submitted its findings, a commitment that, according to him, had now been fulfilled.
He maintained that the investigation would distinguish facts from allegations and emphasised that no one would be allowed to exploit or hurt public faith. According to him, any individual found guilty of tampering with the sentiments associated with Sanatan Dharma would face the full force of the law without any exemption.
The Chief Minister further alleged that political parties which had opposed the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the construction of the Ram Temple were now claiming to defend the faith of devotees. He argued that such efforts were aimed at defaming Ayodhya and the temple without credible evidence. He urged critics to submit any evidence they possessed before the SIT instead of engaging in what he described as baseless propaganda, adding that the government had maintained from the outset that the investigation would reveal the truth and that action would follow the SIT's recommendations.
Appealing for restraint while the investigation continues, Adityanath requested political parties to avoid unnecessary political rhetoric and allow the professional investigation to reach its logical conclusion.
The Chief Minister also criticised Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal for describing the Uttar Pradesh Police FIR as a "sham" during his visit to Ayodhya on Friday. Adityanath alleged that Kejriwal's tenure as Delhi Chief Minister had been marked by corruption and poor governance, claiming that had the AAP government worked for Delhi in the same manner as the BJP government had worked for Ayodhya, the national capital would have witnessed similar development.
According to senior police officials, all eight persons named in the FIR have now been arrested in connection with the alleged embezzlement of donations received at the Ram Temple.
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Krishna Mohan, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, following recommendations made in the preliminary report of the Special Investigation Team constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government to probe the allegations.
Ayodhya Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Grover said the accused are currently in police custody and will be produced before the court after preliminary questioning as the investigation continues.
