Trinamool Alleges Security Personnel Removal at Mamata Banerjee’s Residence
Senior TMC leader Derek O’Brien shared a video on social media around 9:30 pm and claimed that the personnel had been removed around 7:30 pm.
According to O’Brien, the officers had been deployed with Banerjee since her tenure as a Member of Parliament, and no replacement security arrangement had reached the residence at that time.
O’Brien, who said he had parked his vehicle at the entrance, questioned whether the move was linked to Banerjee’s protest earlier in the day against hawker eviction or her move to court over the previous election.
“Are these connected?” he asked in the video.
According to party sources, three new PSOs have been appointed and are expected to join duty the next day, although their arrival had not been confirmed till late evening.
Reacting to the development, TMC termed the move politically motivated and questioned the decision to replace long-serving security personnel.
In a social media post, the party described the development as “a shocking new low in political vendetta” and alleged that removing long-serving security personnel was “not administrative action” but “a calculated move to isolate and endanger her”.
Earlier in the day, a view-cutter was installed at Banerjee’s Kalighat residence.
The move comes in the backdrop of recent incidents of eggs being thrown at TMC leaders, including an earlier incident allegedly targeting TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh outside the Kalighat residence, following which two persons were arrested.
