State Plans Upgrades for Three Government Hospitals
As part of the initiative, Vidyasagar State General Hospital in Behala, Baghajatin State General Hospital and Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Hospital may see a major facelift.
State Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee on Friday held a meeting at Swasthya Bhavan, chalking out an elaborate plan to upgrade these three government-run health facilities into superspeciality hospitals.
State Sports Minister Indranil Khan, who is also in charge of the Consumer Affairs Department, was present at the meeting.
BJP MLA from Behala West, Indranil Khan, soon after his party came to power, visited Vidyasagar State General Hospital on Diamond Harbour Road and pointed out several lapses in the hospital.
The hospital lacked even a trauma care unit. Khan has submitted a proposal to upgrade the facilities of the hospital.
The expansion will relieve referral pressure on major hospitals and improve specialised healthcare accessibility for residents in Behala, Budge Budge, Maheshtala and Amtala areas.
Following his effort, new facilities like cardiology, neurology, trauma care, orthopaedics and blood bank are already being upgraded in the hospital.
Thousands of people from the region will get the benefits.
The State Health Department has also decided to upgrade Baghajatin State General Hospital.
Officials have outlined visions to develop Baghajatin Hospital into a premier superspeciality facility.
Discussions took place on how to enhance existing capacity to manage critical care and high-end treatments locally without relying on tertiary referral hospitals.
Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Hospital, which caters to a huge number of patients, will also be revamped.
Specialised departments and modern operation theatres will be installed in the hospital, and upgradation of emergency service mechanisms will also happen.
"We have taken up plans to upgrade these three hospitals into a superspeciality hospital. Therefore, we had a detailed discussion with the officials on how to execute the plans. Health infrastructure across Bengal will be upgraded to ensure that people can avail better services," Health Minister Mukherjee said.
