Gold Worth Rs 4 Crore Recovered During Raid Linked to Former TMC Leader Sabyasachi Dutta Case
The recovery was made from properties linked to Tina Bhowmik Saha, a Nadia Zilla Parishad member and a close political associate of Dutta.
Tina’s name reportedly surfaced during Dutta’s interrogation while he was in police custody.
Late on Monday night, police, accompanied by Dutta, conducted a raid at a house in Tehatta.
From there, they proceeded to Tina’s parental home in Karimpur and her marital residence in Nazirpur.
During the raids, more than 3 kg of gold ornaments and bridal jewellery sets were allegedly recovered from almirahs and lockers.
The close associate of Dutta reportedly failed to produce valid documents relating to the seized items.
Apart from this, police seized around 3 kg of gold ornaments and 1.3 kg of silver coins and biscuits from two lockers in a nationalised bank registered in the names of Dutta and his wife.
Meanwhile, Special Public Prosecutor Bibhas Chatterjee on Tuesday appealed for the addition of a section under the Prevention of Corruption Act, which was reportedly granted.
Since cases involving corruption charges cannot be heard by an ACJM court, the matter has been transferred to the Special Court in Barasat, where it will be heard on Wednesday.
Dutta, who was produced before the Bidhannagar ACJM Court on Tuesday, was remanded to judicial custody for one day.
