Darjeeling Hills Gear Up for Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s First Visit to Kurseong

Amitava Banerjee, MP, June 16, 2026, Darjeeling: The stage is set for Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s maiden visit to the Darjeeling Hills.

The Chief Minister will arrive in Kurseong on Tuesday and attend two programmes before returning to Kolkata later in the day.

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista on Monday attended a BJP Darjeeling district organisational meeting in Kurseong to review preparations for the Chief Minister’s visit.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Bista said: “The Chief Minister will arrive by helicopter at Chandmari, Kurseong, at around 11 am. From there, he will proceed to Monteviot Ground, where the public will accord him a warm welcome. He will also address a public gathering at the venue.”

Following the public meeting, Adhikari will visit Goethals School, where he will participate in a government programme under the Jana Kalyan Shivir (JKS) initiative being organised at the Goethals Ground in Kurseong.

“The Chief Minister will distribute benefits under various government schemes to beneficiaries from the Goethals Ground,” Bista added.

The MP urged residents to attend the programmes in large numbers and participate actively in the events.

“The people of the Hills are excited and looking forward to the Chief Minister’s visit. The Hill populace was never enthusiastic about the visits of previous Chief Ministers,” Bista claimed.

With the change of government in West Bengal, all eyes are now on Kurseong as Adhikari prepares for his first official visit to the Darjeeling Hills.

With key issues such as a permanent political solution to the long-standing Gorkha issue continuing to dominate public discourse, political observers believe the Chief Minister’s remarks during the visit could provide important indications about the future political direction of the Hills.

Preparations for the visit were in full swing across Kurseong on Monday.

A Safai Abhiyan was also organised, with hundreds of BJP workers and local residents participating in a cleanliness drive across the hill town.

“Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, BJP leaders and karyakartas will work together with citizens’ groups, NGOs, educational institutions, municipalities and government departments to strengthen our clean and green initiatives,” Bista said.

The visit is being closely watched both politically and administratively, as it marks Adhikari’s first direct engagement with the Darjeeling Hills since assuming office as Chief Minister.
