CM Holds Third Public Grievance Hearing; Citizens Raise Concerns

PTI, June 2, 2026, Kolkata : Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday held his third weekly 'janata darbar', with patients, artistes, professionals and ordinary citizens turning up in large numbers to register their grievances and apprise the new CM of their hardships.

Hundreds of people thronged the BJP state office in Salt Lake near here, turning the narrow lanes around the building into a waiting lounge. Many had travelled from districts and far-flung corners of the state seeking a first-hand audience.

The gathering reflected the diversity of Bengal's social landscape – patients, job aspirants, victims of alleged poll violence, and individuals seeking intervention in civic and personal matters.

Officials said petitions covering a wide range of issues, including unemployment, healthcare, law and order, land disputes and social welfare benefits, were submitted during the 'janata darbar'.

Among those who met the Chief Minister was a cancer patient who sought assistance in securing a livelihood to support his family while undergoing treatment.

A group of singers and artistes also attended the public hearing, and alleged that they did not get opportunities to perform in government-sponsored cultural programmes during the previous TMC regime.

They claimed that only a select group of performers, allegedly close to the Trinamool Congress leadership, received programmes and financial benefits, while others were sidelined.

"We were deprived of our rights and opportunities. Programmes were allotted only to a few people who spoke the language of the ruling party," one of the singers alleged.
