CID Gets Court Nod to Examine Signatures of Three TMC MLAs in Forgery Probe

MP, June 3, 2026, Kolkata : In a significant development in the alleged forgery of signatures of several Trinamool Congress MLAs, the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday secured permission from the Bankshall Court to examine the signatures of three legislators as part of its probe.

Sources said investigators have detected multiple discrepancies while examining documents related to a May 19 resolution nominating Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay as Leader of the Trinamool Legislature Party.

During scrutiny of the letter submitted to the Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly and the resolution register, CID officials reportedly found that the serial numbers did not match.

Investigators have also flagged confusion over the dates mentioned in the documents.

The date written beside Chattopadhyay’s name appears to be May 5, raising further questions.

The controversy gained further traction on Tuesday after expelled TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee claimed that no resolution had been adopted at any meeting.

He also alleged that the signatures of several TMC MLAs who were not present at the meeting appeared on the document.

As part of the investigation, CID approached the court seeking permission to examine the handwriting and signatures of TMC MLAs Baharul Islam, Subhasis Das and Arup Roy to determine whether the signatures appearing on the resolution were genuinely theirs.
