BJP’s dist core panels to act as link between party MPs, MLAs

MP, June 2, 2026, 12:43 AM, Kolkata: The BJP’s district-level core committees, which have already been constituted in most districts, are set to play a significant role in maintaining coordination between the party organisation and public representatives such as MLAs and MPs, ensuring that government development initiatives and public outreach efforts move in tandem.

The district-level core committees are expected to become fully operational by June. Sources within the BJP said MLAs will be required to consult their respective district core committees before taking major decisions.

During the period when the BJP was in the Opposition, there was often a lack of coordination between the party organisation and its legislators. Now that the party is in power, senior leaders have emphasised the need for closer coordination between organisational leaders and elected representatives.

Each district core committee will comprise around 15 members, including the district president, district observer, district general secretaries, and BJP MPs and MLAs from the respective organisational district. The committees will serve as the primary decision-making bodies for organisational matters at the district level.

Party legislators will also be expected to give greater importance to organisational activities. The BJP leadership wants its MLAs to play a more active role in ensuring uninterrupted public services and monitoring the functioning of local administrations.

Several district leaders said the committees were necessary because many senior organisational leaders were not fielded in the Assembly elections, while several newly elected MLAs do not hold key positions within the party structure. The core committees are expected to bridge that gap and prevent the emergence of parallel power centres within the organisation.

Meanwhile, the Bengal BJP is preparing to launch an extensive public outreach campaign across the state from June 5 to June 21 to mark 12 years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. The programme will include large-scale community events and various public engagement initiatives aimed at highlighting the Centre’s developmental achievements while accelerating the implementation of central welfare schemes at the grassroots level.
