Bangladeshi National Arrested for Alleged Illegal Entry at Indo–Nepal Border

MP, June 16, 2026, Siliguri: A Bangladeshi national was arrested by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at the Indo-Nepal border in Panitanki under Kharibari while allegedly attempting to enter India illegally.

The accused has been identified as Nandan Das, a resident of Madaripur district in Bangladesh.

According to sources, Das was intercepted by SSB personnel on Sunday while trying to cross into India through the Panitanki border point.

During verification of his documents, officials became suspicious and detained him for questioning.

A search of his belongings led to the recovery of a Bangladeshi passport, an expired visa, a Bangladeshi SIM card and a mobile phone.

SSB officials stated that the accused had reportedly travelled from Bangladesh to Nepal in February this year through an agent, with the intention of going to Serbia for a job.

However, after losing contact with the agent, he remained in Nepal and took up work there.

Following his detention, the SSB handed him over to Kharibari Police Station.

Based on a complaint lodged by the SSB, police arrested him on charges of illegally entering India.

The accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Monday.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
