TMC Calls ‘BJP-Leaked KMC Notice’ Linked to Abhishek Banerjee “Fake”

MP, May 21, 2026, Kolkata : The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday dismissed as “fake”, “fabricated” and “politically motivated” a purported Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) document allegedly circulated by the BJP claiming irregularities in multiple properties linked to party’s national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, including one allegedly co-owned by TMC MP Saayoni Ghosh.

The controversy erupted after the alleged document surfaced on social media, claiming that KMC had issued notices over alleged building irregularities at several properties purportedly linked to Abhishek Banerjee and his family members.

While the KMC did serve notices to around 17 properties of Banerjee, the “fake” document listed more than 40 properties along with names of owners and co-owners.

In an official statement, the Trinamool Congress said the notice and media coverage surrounding it were “completely false, fabricated and devoid of any credibility”.

The party alleged that the document had been “unofficially leaked” by the BJP and urged journalists to verify the addresses and contact details mentioned in the purported notice before publishing reports.

The statement further warned that false reporting and misleading social media posts would be dealt with legally before competent courts.

Reacting sharply, Saayoni Ghosh rejected the allegation that she jointly owned a property with Abhishek Banerjee at Seven Tanks Road in north Kolkata.

In a strongly worded social media statement, she said she came from a “humble background” and had not made any “windfall profits from politics”.

Referring to her election affidavit, she maintained that all her declared assets were already in the public domain and warned of legal action against attempts to malign or intimidate her politically.

TMC MP Sushmita Dev accused sections of the media of amplifying “unofficially leaked” documents without proper verification.

Senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh described the alleged list as “completely fabricated” and claimed the BJP had not released it officially.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim distanced himself from the issue related to the genuine KMC notices, stating that he functions as a “policy maker” and is not involved in day-to-day administrative procedures of the civic body.
