Several TMC Leaders and Councillors Arrested Across West Bengal
Early on Thursday morning, TMC councillor of Dankuni Municipality’s Ward 18, Surya Dey, who had reached a crematorium in protest after his name was deleted from the voter list, was arrested in connection with a post-poll violence case.
It was alleged that after the 2021 elections, Dey assaulted a man and threatened to kill him. Out of fear, the victim did not lodge any complaint at the time. After the change in government, a complaint was filed and a case was registered. On Thursday, police arrested Dey from his residence.
Apart from this, Raju Parui, a councillor of Baidyabati Municipality, was arrested for allegedly assaulting several BJP workers during the campaign period ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
In Gurap, three TMC leaders identified as Samrat Malik, Raju Dhara and Rabin Bag were arrested on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in post-poll violence in 2021.
In Barasat of North 24-Parganas, a councillor of Barasat Municipality was arrested on Wednesday night for alleged involvement in post-poll violence.
Additionally, a TMC councillor of Cooch Behar Municipality was arrested for allegedly obstructing and threatening West Bengal Assembly Speaker Rathindranath Bose ahead of the first phase of the elections. The councillor was arrested on Thursday.
