Nepal Launches ‘MoFA Mitra’ App to Provide Digital Consular Assistance to Citizens Abroad

PTI, May 26, 2026, Kathmandu : Nepal on Tuesday launched a mobile application to provide digital consular assistance to citizens abroad and their families, officials said.

The ‘MoFA Mitra’ mobile application was formally launched by Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal at a programme held at the Department of Consular Services under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tripureshwar, Nepal.

Consular assistance has become more important than ever, as millions of Nepalese are living outside the country and the trend of going abroad continues to rise, Khanal said.

Out of every six Nepalese, one is living abroad for one or another reason. That means nearly five million Nepalese are currently residing overseas, he said.

He also underscored the importance of leveraging digital technology to make consular services more accessible and effective.

The application enables Nepali citizens abroad and their families to register their consular-related concerns and grievances online, receive timely updates on their requests, track the status of their requests and communicate directly with the concerned Nepali missions for effective resolution of their issues, he said.

Now, grievances and problems faced by Nepalese nationals living in foreign countries can be communicated directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through this mobile application, he added.

Matters related to the rescue and repatriation of Nepalese citizens stranded in foreign countries can also be handled through the mobile application, according to Durpad Sapkota, Director General at the Consular Service Department of the Ministry.
